OUR VISION

Is to see a thriving group of Christians moving towards the vision God has for them in the Church, and in their personal lives.

Ephesians 4:12:“Christ gave those gifts to prepare God’s Holy people for the work of serving, to make the body of Christ stronger.”

We also want to see God impact the area of Stanley and we are always looking at ways of making inroads into the community.  In the end, the church is not the building, it's the people".

WE ARE

A fellowship that has existed in Stanley since 1988.  We met previously in Methley.

One thing we have in common is that we have given our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ.  In doing so we have found forgiveness from sin, peace of mind and an assurance for the future.

Jesus said, “I have come that they might have life and have it to the full.” John 10:10

WE BELIEVE

  1. In the inspiration and sole authority of the Bible.

  2. That the Godhead eternally exists in three persons, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  3. That all men have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

  4. That the death and risen power of Jesus Christ are the basis of salvation.

  5. That the church is composed of all true believers in Jesus Christ.

  6. That the Baptism in the Spirit with signs following and the Gifts of the Spirit including divine healing are available to the church today.

  7. In the personal return of Jesus Christ to receive His Church and finally judge the world.

  8. In the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and Believer’s Baptism by total immersion.

Why the name ZION?

There is a stone plaque embedded into the brickwork on the front of the building, with the word ‘ ZION ’ in it. It is painted white and if you look carefully, you may just be able to see either end of it. You can’t make out the word Zion , as it is covered by the apex of the front extension. We are not sure when the plaque was put there. It may have been inserted when the building was erected or even added later. People that have lived in the area of Stanley for a number of years have always known the church building as ZION , so when we moved in we decided to use the name.

What does it mean?

The word ‘ Zion ’ is taken from the Old Testament in the Bible, and there are numerous verses where it is mentioned. It is used to describe ‘The city of David , Jerusalem , the Holy Mountain ’, etc. They were so called because it was where ‘God dwelt’ or the ‘Presence of God’ was. This was due to the Ark of the Covenant being there when King Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem to replace the temporary arrangement of the Tabernacle . for more on the name Zion follow this link

Today, we do not believe that God lives in the building, but in the lives of those who believe and accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour. Please go to Who's Jesus  for more information on this.
